So, here it is.. November first and I've recently finished the day's quota of NaNo writing.

Not bad, right? I've got what feels like a plot, albeit a sort of boring one, three characters with the potential to be halfway decent, and some superpowers. The people with superpowers are currently just known as "Others", though I'll probably end up changing that when it comes to editing. Cameron, my main male character, already has a tendency to drift into space at the oddest times, which is good - because it adds to my wordcount - yet bad, because it throws me off my stride. However, I think I could write a whole novel based on his daydreams... maybe a sequel!

I'm proud of my word total-- I worked an extra day this week, I'm fighting an inopportune eye infection, I'm not sleeping well... yet I managed to write to my goal on the first day. Woo!

Tomorrow, continued character development and the introduction of my female character.

I have two main characters! And quite possibly the beginnings of a fantasy/sci-fi plot!

But really, Cameron and Gabriel? Do I really like names that sound like these guys would get beat up in school? Apparently yes, yes, I do. Luckily they can be shortened to Cam and Gabe if I so choose.

I've decided that writing something original for NaNo would benefit me far more than writing something CSI:NY or other fandom. For one, an original could actually find itself on store shelves one day...

Maybe not this story, but it could set me on the road to other stories!

I was driving home from work this morning and thinking to myself that I should put a Jaffa in my story, from Stargate. Maybe even Teal'c. That way whenever he sees the other characters he can use their full names, and bam, that's two words right there. "Indeed, Daniel Jackson." "Over here, Daniel Jackson." "Bow dow-" okay, you get the drift here.

Except that would be cheating. But still a funny thought, no?

I'm really looking forward to testing my limits with this. So far, I've got one character who will hopefully do what I want him to do. I've got his "kind of a friend, but not a friend," who seems to have decided he wants to be military. I'm not sure how he'll be meeting the first guy yet. There will probably be a female character, but so far I'm just working on the guys. Who they are, basic bare outlines of them so I can keep track of who can do what. I don't really want to do too much plot-wise yet, because I'm afraid that I'll do too much and then come November first, I won't be able to write. :/

So, I've finally found a purpose for my Vox.

This year I'll be participating in NaNoWriMo. That's National Novel Writing Month, for those of you who don't know. During the month of November, I'll be writing a novel (my first one!), and with luck it will be over 50,000 words. Yes, that's right-- 30 days, 50,000 words.

Right now, I have no plot.. but a few bunnies. Three characters, but not much background. I have a feeling that on November 1st, I'll either be writing like a writing fiend or sat staring at the monitor as if it was my worst enemy. Here on Vox, I'm going to attempt to chronicle the good times, the bad times, the ripping my hair out, and hopefully at the end of it all, celebration.
